Mission of Hope Shelter
211 Park Court SE
319-365-0502
The Mission of Hope Shelter is open 24/7 and is less than two blocks from the Mission. Lives are being changed in many different ways. Some are finding jobs and permanent housing, while others are involved in recovery programs and church activities. Residents are finding stability and hope. Yet, each one is experiencing something far greater than this-the love of God. When men and women come to the shelter, they are welcomed with compassion, offered a hot shower, a clean bed, and given a homemade meal.
Mission
To meet basic needs, change hearts, disciple people and teach the church.
Vision
To offer a Christ-centered ministry 24 hours a day/seven days a week to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of former offenders & others in need.
There are Worship Services
Attending church promotes spiritual growth. Mission of Hope offers a worship service every Saturday night at 6:30 PM and every Sunday at 10:30 A.M. The eventual goal is to have daily worship services.
There are Bible Studies
Reading and studying God's Word encourages people, gives them hope, and motivates them to change. Mission of Hope offers Bible studies twice a week. The eventual goal is to have daily Bible studies.
The Church Mentors Former Offenders
Many men and women from area churches are willing to volunteer their time and skills to a meaningful ministry. It gives them fulfillment to know they are:
+ making a difference in their community, and
+ being faithful to what Christ has commissioned them to do.
What Needs To Happen?
Rehabilitation of the Heart
Along with rehabilitating the mind there needs to be a "rehabilitation if the heart." God is the only one who can change the heart and He uses His people to do it.
Longer Period of Discipleship
Through volunteerism in jails and prisons the Church begins to disciple inmates. Upon release, discipleship needs to continue for their own good and for the good of the community.
Church to Take Responsibility
The Church must work together in a united effort to provide food, clothing, and shelter to the poor, to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost, and to teach and nurture new disciples.
Mission of Hope has two programs, which offer faith communities opportunities to share in ministry.
+ PEP (Pastor Exchange Program)
The pastor of Mission of Hope wants to come to your church and preach. What a great way for you to learn more about this important ministry! In turn, your pastor will have the rich experience of preaching in a local mission.
+ ECCO (Each Church Commission One)
Mission of Hope welcomes missionaries! If you feel "called" to serve the mission field, ask your pastor to commission you to Mission of Hope for 6 months.
Contact Mission of Hope about other volunteer opportunities providing 1st Sunday lunches, Friday night meals, daily lunches, baking fresh cookies for worship services, collect food donations and shelter toiletry kits, preaching or leading worship on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings, and time during the week to help clients.
